AIQ vs IQ: what is the difference?
IQ estimates general cognitive ability. AIQ measures how well a person actually works with AI. One is treated as fixed; the other is a skill you can build.

The short answer
IQ is a long-standing estimate of general cognitive ability, usually described as a broadly stable trait. AIQ is a measure of how a person works with artificial intelligence: whether they give clear instructions, question and verify what the model says, catch its mistakes, and adapt. IQ asks how your mind performs on abstract problems. AIQ asks how you perform with AI on real work. Crucially, AIQ is learnable: it reflects behavior and judgment, so it improves with practice.
| IQ | AIQ | |
|---|---|---|
| What it measures | General cognitive ability | How a person works with AI |
| Nature | Treated as a stable trait | Demonstrated behavior in context |
| Can it be developed? | Largely fixed | Yes, improves with practice |
| Based on | Abstract problem solving | Judgment, questioning, reasoning, adaptation |
| Evidence | A single test score | A scored session with supporting evidence |
| Main use | Research, some aptitude testing | Hiring, workforce development, credentialing |
What AIQ actually measures
AIQ comes from watching how someone works through a real task with AI, not from a quiz about AI. It looks at the judgment behind the work: do they ask the right follow-up question, notice when the model is confidently wrong, keep what is useful and discard what is not, and adapt their approach as the task changes. Those behaviors are scored against published criteria to produce a result with evidence behind it. You can read how this works in how AIQ is measured.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between AIQ and IQ?
IQ estimates general cognitive ability and is treated as a broadly stable trait. AIQ measures how a person actually works with artificial intelligence: the judgment, questioning, reasoning and adaptation they show in a real AI-assisted task. AIQ is about demonstrated behavior in a context, not innate ability, and it can be developed.
Is AIQ the same as an IQ test for AI?
No. AIQ is not a cognitive or personality test and does not estimate intelligence. It records how someone works with AI in a measured session, scored against published criteria. A high AIQ reflects strong working practice with AI, not a higher IQ.
Can you improve your AIQ?
Yes. Because AIQ measures behavior and judgment rather than a fixed trait, it improves with practice: writing clearer prompts, checking and correcting AI output, knowing when to trust it and when not to. That is the opposite of how IQ is usually described.
Why does AIQ matter for hiring?
Most work now involves AI, so how a candidate works with AI predicts on-the-job value better than whether they can recite facts. AIQ gives employers evidence of that capability, as one input alongside human judgment, rather than a claim on a resume.
